Synjuk vows to safeguard matrilineal lineage system

SHILLONG, Sep 28: The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep, a confederation of clan elders, held its Third General Dorbar on Saturday, reaffirming its commitment to safeguard the matrilineal clan lineage system (kheiñ kur kheiñ kha) and indigenous customs.
The meeting, chaired by lawyer Robert June Kharjahrin, was attended by KHADC Chairman Bah Strongpillar Kharjana as chief guest, who stressed the vital role of the maternal uncle (kñi) in guiding and strengthening the clan.
The Dorbar unanimously elected RL Kharpran as president, Raphael Warjri as general secretary, and Aristotle Lyngdoh, Ploster Syiem, and D Donstan Khonglah as vice presidents, among others. Elders from War Jaintia, Ri Bhoi, and other regions also contributed suggestions on protecting indigenous traditions from dilution.
