NONGPOH: Headmen of Umsning area, under the umbrella of Umtrew River Protection Committee served a one-month deadline to Meghalaya Agrovet Private Limited urging the company to remove all the waste released into the river which is a source of drinking water for several villages under Umsning area.

It may mentioned that the company has constructed a big poultry farming at Mawthei village in Ri Bhoi district which was strongly opposed by the headmen as the company openly released the feces of chickens into the river without constructing any sewage treatment plant to prevent wastes flowing into the Umtrew river.

The decision to serve the company a month deadline was taken by the headman of Umsning Areas after a joint inspection on Saturday last, in which they also threatened that if the company failed to comply to their demand stern actions will be taken.
