Three drown during idol immersion in Agra
AGRA, Oct 3: Three persons drowned during an idol immersion in the Utangan river in Agra district, officials said on Friday.The incident occurred in Khairagarh area on Thursday when nine people slipped into deep water during the immersion.While locals managed to rescue one person, the bodies of Gagan (26), Ompal (32) and Bhagwati (20) were later recovered, they said.Search was underway for some more missing persons, the police said. District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bangari said six people were missing and teams of local divers, police personnel and the SDRF had been pressed into service.He said the administration had designated a specific site for the immersion, but the group chose another spot in the river. 4 killed, 1 injured after being hit by Vande Bharat train in Bihar
PURNEA, Oct 3: Four persons were killed and another was injured after being hit by a Vande Bharat train in Purnea district of Bihar on Friday while trying to cross the tracks, an official said.The incident took place around 4 am on the Katihar-Jogbani section, said Munna Kumar, Station Manager-Purnea Junction.“A group of youngsters was trying to cross the tracks. Because it was dark and the weather overcast, they could not notice the speeding train in time,” Kumar said.Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the deaths and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured person.The lone survivor has been admitted to the hospital. Man drowns 4-month-old son, dies by suicide
BEED, Oct 3: A man allegedly killed his four-month-old son and committed suicide following a domestic dispute in Maharashtra’s Beed district in the early hours of Friday, police said. Amol Hausrao Sonawane (30) allegedly drowned his son in a barrel of water before hanging himself from an iron frame in the courtyard of his house, he said.The deceased man’s wife, Payal, was asleep at the time of the incident.Incidentally, the couple had attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance last week.A probe is underway to ascertain the reason for the extreme step, they said. JD(U) MLA joins RJD ahead of Bihar polls
KHAGARIA, Oct 3: In a setback to CMNitish Kumar’s JD(U) ahead of the assembly polls in Bihar, MLA Sanjeev Kumar joined the RJD on Friday.Kumar, who ended his two-decade-old association with the ruling party, joined the RJD at a rally in Khagaria district, where the Parbatta assembly segment he represents is located.RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav addressed the rally through video conference as he could not attend it in person because of the bad weather.Kumar, who had faced accusations of trying to split the JD(U) last year when the chief minister returned to the NDA. Kumar’s late father, Ramanand Prasad Singh, had represented the Parbatta seat twice as a JD(U) MLA. The induction of Kumar who belongs to the powerful upper caste Bhumihar is seen as an attempt of inclusivness of the RJD. (PTI)
