Shillong hosts 9th India International Folk Fest

SHILLONG, Oct 3: The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Zonal Office, North East, in collaboration with the Arts and Culture department, organised the 9th India International Folk Festival in Shillong on Thursday.
According to a statement here, the programme featured captivating performances by Hay Astger (Armenian Stars) and Nane Folk Dance Ensemble from Armenia, as well as Ziemia Bydgoska from Poland. Both cultural troupes travelled from their respective countries to showcase the richness of their traditions.
“The event served as a cultural bridge between Meghalaya, Armenia and Poland, fostering mutual appreciation and understanding. The ICCR continues to pursue its mission of reviving and strengthening India’s cultural ties with the global community,” a statement here said.
The festival was also simultaneously held in New Delhi and other parts of India.
Meanwhile, as part of its 75th year of celebration, ICCR will sponsor three cultural troupes from Meghalaya to perform abroad.
In addition, the renowned Shillong Chamber Choir will be sent to London in December 2025 to represent the cultural vibrancy of the state and the country.
