Woman Naxal injured in blast while planting IED

BIJAPUR, Oct 4: A woman Naxalite was injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) she was trying to plant with the help of other ultras went off in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday, police said.Locals found Gujja Sodhi in an injured condition in the forest of Bandepara in the morning.As per preliminary information, Sodhi and her colleagues were planting an IED to target security personnel. However, it exploded, leaving her wounded. Sodhi’s colleagues took her weapon, a 12-bore gun, and fled the scene, he said.On being alerted by villagers, a police team reached the site and provided first aid to Sodhi before rushing her to the district hospital, the official said.Sodhi had been an active member in the Madded area committee of the banned Maoist organisation for the past six to seven years, working alongside a local commander, identified as Kanna Bucchna, he said. Cop accused of rape thrashed by victim’s husband

BEED, Oct 4: A police personnel, accused in a rape case, was thrashed in public by the husband of the victim after he was caught with her in Maharashtra’s Beed city.An assistant police inspector was dragged out of his car and thrashed on the city streets on Friday afternoon, an official said.The cop, posted in Dharashiv, was travelling in a car with the woman who had accused him of rape, when her husband spotted them, he said.The cop, however, managed to flee after the attack.The accused cop had lured a married woman into a relationship in 2013. He continued to harass her even after his transfer to Dharashiv.In June and July 2025, the woman lodged a complaint alleging that the cop had forced his way into her house, raped her at gunpoint, and the assault led to pregnancy.A case was registered against the accused, he was booked for rape, assault, and intimidation, but remained absconding. DCP among six injured in clash during idol immersion

CUTTACK, Oct 4: Six people, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishikesh Khillari, were injured after a clash broke out between two groups during a Durga Puja idol immersion procession in Odisha’s Cuttack in the early hours of Saturday, police said.The incident happened around 2AM, when the procession was heading to Debigara, they said.Locals objected to high-decibel music being played in the procession, leading to a confrontation. It soon escalated with both groups hurling stones and glass bottles at each other, prompting the police to baton charge the crowd to bring the situation under control, they added.Fresh tension flared when another procession reached the area. Central Armed Police Forces were called in to tackle the situation, and the immersion processions resumed around 6 am amid heavy security, police said.Vehicles with a total of 50 idols of various community Durga Pujas in the city remained stuck because of the incident for about four hours, they said.Khilari was injured in the clashes, but his condition is stated to be stable, an official said. One person with critical injuries was admitted to the hospital, he said. (PTI)
