SHILLONG, Oct 6: The Meghalaya government has assured the KSU of actions to address the longstanding issue regarding the recruitment of nurses at NEIGRIHMS.
KSU general secretary Donald V. Thabah said this assurance came during a meeting with Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Monday.
Shylla said the government will investigate discrepancies in the nurses’ recruitment process and ensure the KSU is kept informed.
Thabah noted that the state government is yet to confirm a meeting with Union Health Minister JP Nadda on the NEIGRIHMS issue.
Additionally, during the same meeting, the KSU urged the government to reserve PG seats at the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH) for Khasi and Jaintia domicile students.
Thabah expressed concern that many deserving locals from NEIAH struggle to gain admission to PG courses, leading to a sense of dissatisfaction and discouragement among the youth.
The KSU proposed a specific quota of PG seats for Meghalaya’s permanent residents to promote equitable access to healthcare education opportunities.
It may be recalled that NEIGRIHMS had suspended its nursing officers’ recruitment following the KSU’s intervention which demanded a recruitment ratio of 80:20 in favour of females and preference for local healthcare professionals.
