50 injured as train derails in Assam

Guwahati: Over 50 passengers were injured, 19 of them seriously, when the engine and nine coaches of Dimapur-Kamakhya BG Express of the Northeast Frontier Railway derailed at 2-15 A.M, after the train had left Aujuri station in central Assam at 2.05 A.M. on Wednesday.
Railway officials informed that five coaches derailed while four coaches capsized in the mishap. The train was travelling from Dimapur railway station in Nagaland to Kamakhya Station in Guwahati.
The derailment damaged about 100 meters of railway line leading to cancellation of eight trains on the route, controlling of five long-distance train and short termination of four trains.
The Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express had to be detained at Lumding, railway  officials said.
Nineteen passengers were seriously injured and were immediately admitted to various hospitals including Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) while remaining 33 injured were discharged after they had been provided with first aid in Morigaon Civil Hospital.
The cause of the derailment is being investigated while senior railway officials have rushed to the site to supervise rescue operations and restoration of the railway track.

A special train carrying about 170 passengers of the ill-fated train left Jagiroad station at 8:10 hours for Guwahati railway station.Train services are likely to resume on the track tonight as the railway authority expects to restore the damaged track by that time.
