MAWKYRWAT, Oct 8: The Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Warsan Lyngdoh area met the South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, B. Mawlong, on Wednesday and expressed concern over the lack of development in Warsan Lyngdoh, considered to be one of the most backward areas in the district.
Speaking to media persons, Synjuk spokesperson Zandy Myrthong said that Synjuk raised many issues about development in the area. The focus was on surface connectivity, as many villages, including Nongtnger, Nongrynniang, Mawjai, Nongummer, Mawhiangruda, and Puinskei, were without proper roads.
Myrthong underscored the lack of a secondary school in the area, forcing students to go to Nongstoin and other places for their education. He said the authorities of Nongtynniaw village found a solution by setting up a secondary school without waiting for government support.
“Now that the school has been set up, we demand that the government provide financial assistance for the salary of teachers who are giving their best to educate our children so that this school can continue to serve our people,” Myrthong said, adding that the Synjuk fears the school may collapse one day when the individuals helped set it up cannot support it any more.
He stated that the Synjuk also requested the DC to set up a C&RD Block at Mawnore for the benefit of the people of the Warsan Lyngdoh, Phlangdiloin, and Umdohlun areas. He said the officers told the villagers that they had completed the survey for setting up the block office in the area, and the ball is now in the government’s court.
Other issues raised with the DC included the setting up of a branch of Meghalaya Rural Bank in the area.
Myrthong said that Synjuk was satisfied with the meeting, as the DC promised to take up the issues with the higher authorities.
