SHILLONG: Ancy Rani’s brace enabled Mairang to beat Mawshynrut in the girls’ final of the West Khasi Hills District Level Under-12 Football Tournament, held at Nongstoin on Wednesday.
Mawthadraishan then defeated Mairang in the boys’ final.
The girls’ title match ended 2-1 in Mairang’s favour, with Balasara Sohshang scoring for the runners-up.
The boys’ match was tied at 1-1 at full time, with Jefferson Warjri scoring for Mairang and Mebanskhem-lang Basaiawmoit doing the same for Mawthadraishan. The latter team came through 6-5 in the tiebreaker.
Sixteen boys and the same number of girls have been selected from the tournament to represent the district in the upcoming state level tournament in Shillong from April 28-May 3.
The selected footballers will take part in a one week intensive camp in preparation.
