Shillong, Oct 10: The Meghalaya Karate-Do Association is all set to field a strong contingent of 108 karatekas, along with seven team officials and eight technical officials, for the 4th North East Zone Karate Championship 2025, scheduled to be held on October 11-12 at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
The championship will feature athletes across age categories, including Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, U-21, and Senior, representing the state in various kumite and kata events.
Performances at the championship will serve as a qualifier for the KIO All India Inter-Zone Karate Championship 2025, to be held in Goa in December this year.The Meghalaya contingent includes promising young talents such as Princey A Blah Pohti, Davina Banrisa War, Yashasvi Lyngdoh, and Sai Sudharsan, who will compete in multiple kumite and kata categories across age groups.
The team also features senior karatekas who have consistently performed at the state and national levels.
Seven team officials will accompany the athletes, ensuring smooth logistics and coordination during the championship.
Meanwhile, eight technical officials from Meghalaya will oversee the conduct of the matches, ensuring adherence to international karate standards.
Speaking on the eve of the championship, a representative of the Meghalaya Karate-Do Association said, “We have prepared extensively for this championship, and our athletes are eager to perform at their best.
This event is crucial as it gives our karatekas an opportunity to qualify for the national inter-zone championship in Goa.”
The Meghalaya Karate-Do Association, established in 1987 and recognized by the Government of Meghalaya Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, the State Sports Council, and the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, continues to nurture talent across the state and provide a platform for young athletes to shine at regional and national levels.
The championship is expected to be fiercely competitive, with karatekas from across the North East showcasing their skills in kumite bouts and kata performances.
