SHILLONG, Oct 11: In a major step towards advancing sports excellence in Meghalaya, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) has announced plans to establish a High-Performance Sports Science Centre in Shillong to provide world-class training and support for athletes.
The department has already floated a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Establishment and Operation of the High-Performance Sports Science Centre, marking the beginning of the project aimed at transforming the State’s approach to athletic preparation and performance.The proposed facility will bring together a comprehensive range of services — including advanced sports science, performance analysis, injury prevention and rehabilitation, as well as athlete wellness programmes — all under one roof.
Officials said the centre will leverage modern technology, scientific research, and expert guidance to nurture local sporting talent, enhance competitiveness, and raise the overall standard of performance among Meghalaya’s athletes.
Once operational, the state-of-the-art centre is expected to serve as a cornerstone for athlete development in the Northeast, bridging the gap between traditional training and modern sports science practices.
The initiative reflects the State government’s growing commitment to nurturing sporting talent and positioning Meghalaya as a hub for athletic excellence in the region. By integrating science with sports, the upcoming High-Performance Sports Science Centre is poised to redefine athlete preparation, inspire the next generation of sportspersons, and place Meghalaya firmly on India’s sporting map.
Beyond its immediate impact on athlete training, the centre is also expected to creating a holistic ecosystem for performance enhancement.
