SHILLONG, Oct 12: In yet another shocking case, a 14-year-old girl has been reported missing from her residence at Umpling Dong Shaneng Block-6 on Sunday evening, adding to growing public concern over a spate of similar cases in the city in the last few days.
According to the family, the girl who lived opposite the BSF gate — disappeared moments before the family gathered for their evening Rosary. She had gone to the washroom and then to fetch water from a tank, but never returned.
When she failed to return, her family began searching for her, but she was nowhere to be found. During the search, a wristwatch was recovered near the house, though police have yet to confirm whether it belongs to the missing teenager or someone else.
Her father, Bikash Marbaniang, said his daughter had been unwell for the past two years and suffered frequent fainting spells. Due to her fragile health, she had stopped going to school and rarely left the house.
Following her disappearance, Marbaniang lodged an FIR at the Rynjah Police Station. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem confirmed that a case has been registered and that the search operation is ongoing.
Local youths and residents have also joined the search efforts, conducting vehicle checks and combing the area for any leads.
Umpling, notably, is located adjacent to Nongrah from where two minors went missing and were subsequently found dead.
