GUWAHATI, Oct. 14: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against two senior PWD officers and an architect of a private firm in connection with the ‘suspected suicide’ of PWD assistant engineer, Joshita Das in Bongaigaon earlier this year.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the investigation agency informed that the case has been registered against Bongaigaon PWD sub-divisional officer, Aminul Islam; Bongaigaon PWD executive engineer Dinesh Medhi Sharma, and Debajit Sharma, an architect of a private company, M/s Aesthetic Creations, Bongaigaon.
The case has been registered in pursuance of an order passed by the Assam government on August 11, 2025 and a notification issued by Union ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions (department of personnel and training) on October 7, 2025, thereby transferring the case (number 188/2025), investigation of case number 188/2025 of Bongaigaon police station to CBI.
It may be recalled that the PWD assistant engineer was found dead at her apartment in Bongaigaon town on July 22.
“It is alleged that the deceased Joshita Das was under tremendous undue and illegitimate work pressure from her seniors/colleagues/ contractors, including the accused architect of a private company, SDO, PWD, Bongaigaon and executive engineer, PWD, Bongaigaon regarding a mini stadium project of PWD, Bongaigaon,” the statement from CBI read.
“It is also alleged that she was forced, coerced, criminally intimidated and threatened to prepare and pass estimates and bills in an irregular manner, which took a severe toll on her, for which she had to take this extreme step,” it read.
The agency further stated that investigation in the case was underway.
