Tagore Club celebrates his belated birth anniv

SHILLONG, Oct 14: The Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban, Shillong, in collaboration with Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School, celebrated the belated birth anniversary of Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore at the U Soso Tham Auditorium on Sunday.
The prize distribution ceremony of the 15th Inter-Shillong Cultural Event 2025 was also conducted as part of the celebration.
Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai, was unable to join the programme due to health reasons but conveyed his best wishes to the club and the participants.
The event was graced by Jona Goswami, Principal of LBBHSS, Prof (Dr) Sujit Nandy Majumdar, and Reeta Ghosh as special guests. The programme began with an inaugural song by Sutapar Jalsa Ghor, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, the presidential address, and a series of cultural performances, including a Tagore dance by Debopriya Dasgupta, and group dances by students of Laban Bengalee Boys’ LP School, MOD, and IAV.
Debopriya Dasgupta bagged the Overall Champion Trophy of this year’s competition.
In his address, Pankaj Deb, president of the Club, shared that over 800 participants took part in various competitions, with 486 prizes awarded to 251 individual winners. The events included Rabindra Sangeet, folk song, art, essay writing, fun games, dance on Tagore songs, folk dance, recitation (English and Bengali), and dance on Hindi songs.
The club also felicitated the judges who served across different categories. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sagar Nandi, general secretary of the club, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
