No response yet from poll panel

SHILLONG: The Election Commission of India has so far been silent on the complaint against Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for violation of the model code of conduct by using a State government helicopter in election campaigns.

State Chief Electoral Officer P. Naik had recently said that he had sent the report on the model code violation charge to the ECI. Naik had said that the chopper had been hired by the Congress party. The stand of the Chief Minister has been that the party would reply to the complaint.

The opposition NPP, which had lodged the complaint against the violation of the model code of conduct by the Chief Minister, is peeved that no direction has come from ECI on the issue though polling in the Lok Sabha election was concluded in Meghalaya on April 9.

Returning officer of Tura Lok Sabha seat Pravin Baskshi after getting response from officials of Pawan Hans and Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) had submitted his report to the CEO.

Both MTC and Pawan Hans had claimed that de-hiring of the chopper was possible, justifying the use of helicopter by the Chief Minister

However, Naik had recently said that there was no system of de-hiring the chopper as per the agreement between MTC and Pawan Hans.
