Shillong, Oct 16: The All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) produced a stellar performance at the 4th North East Zone Karate Championship 2025, held from October 11–12 in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, returning home with an impressive 62 medals — including 12 Gold, 11 Silver, and 39 Bronze.
A strong contingent of 108 karatekas, along with seven team officials and eight technical officials, represented Meghalaya across various divisions — Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, U-21, and Senior — in what turned out to be one of the state’s most successful outings in recent memory.Notably, all Gold and Silver medal winners from the championship have earned the right to represent the North East Zone at the upcoming KIO All India Inter-Zone Karate Championship 2025, scheduled to be held in Goa in December.
Adding to the state’s honour, Kynjailin L. Mawnai, bronze medallist at the 9th South Asian Karate Championship 2025 held in Colombo earlier this year, was felicitated during the opening ceremony for her international achievement.
Among the standout performers for Meghalaya were Fadrik Wanniang, Aventinus George Mylliem, Samebanmerbha Blah, Paul Danny Kharmudai, Ialamphang Kharkongor, Adella Nongrum, Esranaki Kharjana, Sandameka V. Langstieh, Daiarisa Nongrum, Rebeka Nongspung, and Barisha Kharbani, who all clinched gold medals in their respective categories.
