SHILLONG, Oct 16: With the Centre making its intentions clear to close the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme by March next year, the state government has assured SSA teachers in Meghalaya that their services will be protected.
The SSA and Fourth Teachers held a meeting on Thursday with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to discuss the government’s proposed takeover of SSA schools and the enhancement of teachers’ pay scales.
President of the Meghalaya SSA School Association, Aristotle Rymbai, described the meeting as positive, stating that the chief minister had assured them that the government would safeguard the services of all SSA teachers once the scheme comes to an end on March 31, 2026.
During the meeting, it was also clarified that the pay enhancement would be implemented in the form of a pay scale revision.
Regarding the state government’s proposal to take over SSA schools, a total of 3,332 schools across the state have expressed their willingness to be included in the exercise.
