SHILLONG, Oct 17: United Democratic Party (UDP) legislator from West Shillong and former cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh on Friday carried out an extensive inspection of multiple sites within his constituency, and assured residents that road and water supply projects would be fast-tracked.
Lyngdoh, who also serves as adviser to the Social Welfare department, was accompanied by officials from various government departments and representatives of local dorbar shnongs during the visit.
Speaking after the inspection, Lyngdoh informed that steps had been agreed upon to speed up the implementation of ongoing works. He pointed out that a substantial portion of the planned improvements falls under the ₹25 crore Iewduh rejuvenation project, which was announced by the chief minister earlier this year. He further mentioned that the remaining work involves the renovation of the existing national highway, and that the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has already prepared the necessary estimates for the project. Tenders for the highway rejuvenation are expected to be issued within the next three weeks.
Addressing concerns raised by dorbar shnongs regarding unoccupied structures built by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) at Qualapaty, Lyngdoh said he would hold discussions with the MUDA chairman to resolve the issue.
The possible solutions, he noted, include sealing the unused stalls, demolishing them or allowing the contractor to complete the pending work so that the stalls can be handed over to intended occupants.
Lyngdoh added that construction and repair works in the constituency are likely to commence soon and expressed confidence that the projects could be completed before the Christmas season of 2025.
