Food poisoning: 124 BSF jawans in Tura taken ill

SHILLONG: As many as 124 BSF jawans were taken ill due to food poisoning in West Garo Hills on Sunday.

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi informed that it was after having breakfast at around 6 am that the jawans complained of uneasiness.

At around 9 am, the jawans started vomiting and some of them were affected by diarrhoea.

While as many as 83 personnel were admitted at Mission Hospital, Tura, the remaining were taken to Tura Civil Hospital.

The BSF personnel affected were those who were deployed at Mankachar border and belonging to the Assam frontier. However, their camp was at Praharinagar, Tura.

A BSF official said that soon after the incident was reported, senior BSF officials from Assam frontier had rushed to the hospitals in West Garo Hills.

The official said that after treatment, the BSF personnel were found to be normal.

The BSF has decided to inquire into the matter to find out the cause of the illness.
