Diwali celebrated with migrant workers in Singapore

SINGAPORE, Oct 20: Singapore celebrated Diwali with its migrant worker community through two major events highlighting appreciation and inclusion.
Over 500 workers, mainly from India, enjoyed cultural performances, games, and a lamp-lighting ceremony at Gardens by the Bay on Sunday, hosted by the Ministry of Manpower and IIM Alumni Singapore.
Minister of State for Manpower Dinesh Vasu Dash emphasized the significance of unity and gratitude ahead of Singapore’s 60th independence anniversary.
On Monday, Krsna’s Free Meals, a soup kitchen in Little India, organized a Deepavali fiesta for over 5,000 migrant workers, offering hot briyani and care packs.
Founded by Latha Govindasamy and her family, the charity has served over 5.5 million meals since 2018. Workers are invited to contribute small donations for dignity.
This marks the fifth year of the celebration, with growing participation and continued support from volunteers and the public. Minister Dinesh also attended to help distribute care packs. (PTI)
