Guwahati, Oct. 22: The ruling BJP on Wednesday took out a ‘Nyay Yatra’ (March for Justice) in lower Assam’s Nalbari district, demanding speedy judicial investigation into the ‘mysterious’ death of legendary singer Zubeen Garg, while urging the special investigation team (SIT) for submission of a strong, watertight chargesheet against those found guilty.
Thousands of party workers, supporters and members of the public took part in the march led by state BJP president Dilip Saikia.
The participants shouted slogans such as “Joy Zubeen, Pranor Zubeen”, “Moi-o Zubeen Onuragi, Amio Zubeen Onuragi” (“I am also a Zubeen fan, we all are Zubeen fans”), “Let the court deliver justice swiftly”, and “SIT must submit a watertight chargesheet immediately.”
Saikia thanked the chief minister and the state government for the steps taken since the unfortunate demise of the beloved artist and expressed hope that the court would soon deliver justice.
Criticising Opposition political parties, Saikia alleged that certain parties were trying to engage in politics for electoral gain.
He firmly stated that Zubeen Garg could never become a tool for political agendas and that such tendencies must be rejected.
Union minister Pabitra Margherita, state ministers Jayanta Malla Baruah and Chandramohan Patowary, among others also took part in the ‘Nyay Yatra’.
State BJP spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami informed that similar Nyay Yatras will be held in Mangaldoi on Thursday, in Dibrugarh and Cachar on Friday, and subsequently across all district headquarters of Assam with the participation of thousands of BJP workers and fans of the late singer.
