SHILLONG: There is a spurt in the rape cases in the State especially in Garo Hills.
According to Police reports, on April 19 evening, one auto-rickshaw driver Rikseng raped a seventeen year old girl in a jungle at Balonggre in West Garo Hills . His unidentified accomplice also attempted to rape her but she managed to escape.
In another case, on April 18 at around 1 pm, one Tangkan Ch. Marak along with his four accomplices attempted to rape one fifteen year old girl at Balsrigittim, Baghmara in South Garo Hills.
One Pre Tariang lodged a complaint at Jowai police station that on April 16 around 2 pm, one Plik Chyrmang raped a ten year old minor girl at Mihmyntdu village in West Jaintis Hills and threatened her with dire consequences.
