NEW DELHI, Oct 22: The government has announced an “open house” on October 27 in New Delhi to discuss rising concerns over steel imports, inviting companies and industry associations to share their views.
The move follows growing complaints from domestic producers about cheap steel imports impacting their competitiveness.
The Reserve Bank of India, in its October bulletin, warned that such dumping could harm domestic production and advocated for policy support.
In response, the government has already imposed a 12% safeguard duty on specific steel products for three years.
Despite this, steel imports rose by 10.7% in the first half of FY25, making India a net importer by 0.28 million tonnes.
While imports from China and Germany declined, those from Korea, Japan, and Russia increased. (PTI)
