SHILLONG, Oct 25: Governor CH Vijayashankar on Saturday commended the efforts of Shillong Vidyalaya Secondary School in nurturing generations of responsible and disciplined citizens as the institute celebrated the closing ceremony of its 75th anniversary with enthusiasm.
The event marked the culmination of a year-long celebration, highlighting the school’s remarkable journey of educational excellence and community service since its establishment in 1950.
The Governor, who was the chief guest on the occasion, congratulated the school community for completing 75 years and commended its efforts in nurturing generations of responsible citizens.
He then encouraged students to embrace discipline, integrity and compassion as guiding principles in their pursuit of excellence.
On the occasion, the Jubilee Souvenir was also released by the Governor.
Cabinet minister Shanbor Shulai, who was the guest of honour, praised the school’s continued contribution to the field of education and encouraged students to carry forward its proud legacy with dedication and perseverance.
Earlier, the programme began with the lighting of candles, while the headmistress expressed gratitude to teachers, alumni and well-wishers for their contribution to the school’s illustrious legacy.
On the occasion, students presented a melodious song, followed by a felicitation ceremony honouring special guests, former headmasters, distinguished alumni, meritorious students, the Subroto Cup 2025 runner-up team and both teaching and non-teaching staff for their dedicated service.
The audience was also treated to a vibrant musical performance by the ARC Jazz Band from the Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley.
