NONGPOH, Oct 25: The Ri-Bhoi District Administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with representatives of Oil India Limited (OIL) for the construction of 47 separate toilet facilities for female students across various schools in Ri-Bhoi district.
The signing ceremony was held at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner in Nongpoh.
As per the MoU, OIL will provide financial assistance of around ₹72 lakh under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to support schools that currently lack dedicated sanitation facilities for girls.
Speaking to media persons, the DC expressed satisfaction over the collaboration and stated that the project follows the visit of Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, to Ri-Bhoi a few months ago.
During the visit, the district administration had highlighted concerns regarding inadequate toilet infrastructure, which prompted OIL’s support.
The DC further informed that the construction works will be closely monitored by both OIL and the district administration to ensure that the facilities are built to high standards and completed before December 25.
The joint monitoring mechanism, he said, aims to maintain quality, sustainability and proper utilisation of the sanctioned funds.
