SHILLONG: Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) is ready to undertake operation of the Shillong- Dhaka bus service on behalf of the Government with the present fleet of buses under its disposal untill the Volvo buses are made available, if the Government so desires.

Reacting to a news report in this regard, Anthony Pariat, DGM (Operations) Meghalaya Transport Corporation, in a statement issued on Tuesday clarified that what he had mentioned during the round table conference on Look East Policy held here on Monday was that the proposal for procurement of four AC Volvo buses has already been sent by the State Government to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, for its approval and sanction.

According to Pariat, the proposed diversion of route via Jowai and Amlarem and not through the normal route via Pynursla is due to the fact that the existing Dawki Bridge is not viable for long chassis buses.
