Plaint with MHRC against NHIDCL

TURA, Oct 29: General secretary of the ASPF Bernita R Marak on Thursday submitted a complaint to the Chairperson of the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) alleging the unplanned, exploitative, and unjust highway expansion work being done along Rongram-Goeragre-Chitoktak road which she said has led to injustice, harassment, and suffering for the people of the region.
The complaint filed under Section 12 (a) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, accused NHIDCL authorities as well as the appointed Contractor- M/s Shivam Condev Pvt Ltd, of committing various irregularities including unjust land acquisition and denial of fair compensation, bullying, intimidation and violation of human dignity, giving false assurance and misleading authorities, sub standard and unsafe construction, causing environmental degradation and public health hazards, misusing government machinery and public trust as well as failure to maintain transparency and accountability, besides others. Marak demanded suo motu cognizance of the violations committed by NHIDCL and its contractors be taken.
