SHILLONG, Oct 31: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has earned national recognition for its digital governance efforts, receiving a Certificate of Achievement from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for the successful implementation of the National eVidhan Application (NeVA).
The award was presented during the 3rd National Conference on NeVA held Thursday at the Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi.
A delegation led by Dr. Andrew Simons, Commissioner and Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, received the honour on behalf of the House.
NeVA, a flagship initiative under the Digital India Programme, seeks to make all legislative assemblies across India paperless. The Meghalaya Assembly has been among the first to fully integrate the system, enabling members to access questions, notices, rules, and business lists digitally through their tablets and devices.
Officials said the digital shift has allowed real-time information exchange between the Assembly and government departments, improved efficiency and significantly cut paper consumption. Members can now submit questions and notices remotely, a feature that has streamlined legislative procedures and reduced administrative delays.
To ensure smooth adoption, the Assembly has conducted regular training sessions for legislators, helping them adapt to the new digital workflow.
The recognition highlights Meghalaya’s position among the leading states in embracing technology-driven transparency and sustainable governance within legislative processes.
