SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Conrad Sangma smells a rat in the distribution of power tillers by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in Garo Hills recently.

The Leader of Opposition Conrad Sangma while speaking to media persons here on Monday questioned the number of power tillers distributed to victims of the ethnic clash between Garos and Rabhas at Mendipathar in East Garo Hills district.

According to Sangma, the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma distributed only 10 power tillers out of the 41 sanctioned for the victims which rocked Garo Hills earlier this year

“We want to know from the Cheif Minister where are the remaining power tillers,” Sangma said while talking to reporters here on Monday

The Chief Minister last month reporteldy distributed 41 power tillers to victims of the ethnic clash between Garos and Rabhas at Mendipathar.

Meawhile, the Leader of Opposition has also asked the State Government to immediatley remove the high tension electricity tower near the pipe-laying site of Phase III of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS).

It is a very serious matter and it should be removed at the earliest otherwise lives could be lost,” Sangma further asserted.

Despite knowing the fact that the pipe lines designed for Phase III of the project were to pass through the specific location at Mawphlang, the MeECL allegedly went ahead with the construction of a 1,32,000 volt electricity tower near the same location putting the lives of many people at risk.
