Two terrorists killed in failed infiltration bid
SRINAGAR, Nov 8: Two unidentified terrorists were killed as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said an operation was launched on Friday based on specific intelligence inputs from agencies about an infiltration attempt in Keran sector of Kupwara.“Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire,” the Army said in a post on X.“Two terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation. Search of the area in progress,” it said. (PTI)
Woman succumbs after rape attempt by 14-year-old boy
HAMIRPUR (HP), Nov 8: Five days after a 40-year-old married woman was grievously injured while resisting a rape attempt by a 14-year-old boy, she died at a hospital here, while the accused has been apprehended.The woman was cutting grass in a nearby field when the boy, a student of Class 9, forcibly grabbed her and tried to sexually assault her.When the woman resisted, he brutally attacked her with a stick and a sickle, seriously injuring her.The villagers then spotted her lying in the field, bleeding profusely, after which they informed police, who rushed her for treatment, from where she was referred to PGI Chandigarh.Police found pieces of a broken pen and a scale at the crime scene. During questioning, the accused confessed to his crime. (PTI)
Student sets himself ablaze after barred from exam
LUCKNOW, Nov 8: A college student set himself ablaze on Saturday, after being allegedly not allowed to appear in an examination over non-payment of fees, in Budhana town.Ujjwal, who suffered 70 per cent burns, was taken to a hospital in a critical condition. He was later referred to a higher centre for treatment where his condition remains critical, police said.Ujjwal Rana (22), a second-year BA student at DAV College in Budhana, allegedly upset over not being allowed to appear for the exam due to non-payment of fees, attempted suicide by setting himself on fire. Three killed as SUV rams into two vehicles
SOMAVARAM (Andhra Pradesh), Nov 8: A SUV on Saturday hit a two-wheeler and a rickshaw, killing three people and injuring three others, in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh.Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav Garikapati said the accident occurred at Somavaram village in Kirlampudi mandal on National Highway -16.It was on NH-16 at around 7:30 am. One person (named Joga Rao) was driving a car from Vizag to Jaggampet dozed off and hit a motorcycle and a rickshaw from behind,.Rao oversaw a family wedding in the port city and was returning with his family in an exhausted state when he dozed off and rammed into two vehicles.Two people died on the spot, while another succumbed to his injuries in hospital. However, everybody in the car was safe.Police arrested Rao and booked a case. (PTI)
