Seminar on POCSO Act in city college

SHILLONG, Nov 9: A one-day legal seminar on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 was organised at Shillong Law College on Friday to promote awareness and understanding of the law safeguarding children’s rights.
IQAC Coordinator of the college, Dr Daiahunlin Mawlong presented the objectives of the seminar, emphasising the significance of legal literacy among students and the vital role of the POCSO Act in protecting children from sexual offences.
The seminar comprised two sessions conducted by District and Sessions Judge, South Garo Hills, FS Sangma. His in-depth discussion covered key provisions, procedures, and challenges related to the implementation of the Act.
Through real-life examples and practical insights, he helped students gain a clearer understanding of how the law operates to safeguard minors.
Participants described the seminar as highly informative and impactful. The interactive sessions encouraged students to engage in thoughtful dialogue on issues of child protection and justice delivery, fostering a stronger sense of legal responsibility.
Overall, the seminar served as a meaningful platform for future legal professionals to deepen their knowledge of the POCSO Act and reaffirm their commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of children in society.
The programme began with the welcome address by the college principal, Dr Sharif Uddin, while the event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Claireen Cynthia Fancon, Convener of the Academic Committee, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Resource Person and all participants for their contributions to the seminar’s success.
