SHILLONG: An ambu-lance which was a part of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s official convoy hit one labour near Sumer leading to his death recently, a delayed report said on Saturday.

The Guwahati-bound convoy of the Chief Minister had left Shillong at around 6.30 pm on April 20 and on reaching Sumer, the ambulance (ML 01 6451) hit one Wanbok Syiem.

Wanbok was also taken to the Shillong Civil Hospital in critical condition in the same ambulance which hit him. But he succumbed to his injuries the next day.

The matter came to light only after the family members of the victim came and met the media in the city on Saturday to highlight their plight.

Narrating the incident, E Syiem, the victim’s sister said the ambulance hit Wanbok Syiem while he was helping his aunt shift furniture.

The family members of the deceased accused that the guilty driver had not been arrested even after the filing of an FIR at Umiam Police Station.

However, police officials informed that the driver of the ambulance was arrested. He secured a bail and police even registered a case besides seizing the ambulance.
