NONGPOH, Nov 10: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) organised the Sardar@150 Unity March in Nongpoh on Monday to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The event was held in collaboration with MY Bharat and the Ri-Bhoi district administration, under the guidance of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The march was flagged off by Alexander L Hek, Advisor to the Chief Minister; Mayralborn Syiem, MLA of Nongpoh; and Abhilash Baranwal, Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi. They were joined by USTM Vice Chancellor Prof GD Sharma and other officials.
Over 450 students participated, including 200 NSS volunteers from USTM and 250 students from Ri-Bhoi College and Nongpoh Higher Secondary School. The march began at the Indoor Stadium, with students carrying placards and banners. The day began with a floral tribute to a portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The event concluded with cultural performances by USTM students at Ri-Bhoi College. USTM officials expressed gratitude to the ministry for entrusting the university with organising the event.
