SHILLONG, Nov 13: As Shillong prepares to host the highly anticipated Cherry Blossom Festival 2025, a series of traffic regulations and parking arrangements have been announced to ensure public convenience and manage the expected rush at the JN Stadium in Polo during the festival days — November 14 and 15.
In a press release issued by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, the police have detailed several “No Entry” points and traffic diversions that will be enforced from 2:00 PM on both days until the festival crowds disperse.
To prevent congestion around the venue, numerous junctions will be closed for entry towards Polo.
Key “No Entry” points include Lumjingshai Junction: No entry towards CRPF Jn. or Forest Colony; Lawmali Junction: No entry towards Polo Market; Golf Links Tri-Junction: No entry towards Polo; Little Blossom School Junction: No entry towards Polo Market; and 4th Furlong: No entry towards Polo.
Vehicles will be rerouted through alternative roads. For instance, traffic from Golflink Tri-Junction will be directed towards Mawroh Tri-Junction and Tiara Restaurant Junction. Similarly, vehicles from Pynthorumkhrah Bazaar heading towards Wahumkhrah Bridge will be diverted towards Golf Links. The order also specifies “No Left Turn” at the CM’s Bungalow Junction towards Oakland Post Office and from the BJP Office Junction towards Polo.
A notable reversion of traffic rules will see the lifting of the “No Entry” restriction at Wahumkhrah Bridge, allowing vehicles to ply towards Pynthorumkhrah Bazaar to ease flow.
To facilitate visitors, specific parking areas have been designated. These include Golf Links area (Roadside); Red Field opposite Golf Retreat; the road stretches near FCI, from Tiara Restaurant to CM Connect Office and behind Raj Bhawan; State Guest House; and MeECL/Lumjingshai.
Motorists have been strictly advised not to park their vehicles in the designated “No Parking Areas.” These zones include the stretch of road from CM Bungalow Junction to Polo Towers, the road from Majestic Hotel to Oakland Post Office Junction, and several stretches leading to and from Polo, Lawmali Junction, and Lumjingshai Junction.
