SHILLONG, Nov 15: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief, Ardent Basaiawmoit, has likened Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s recent allegations against his party to “The Wolf and the Lamb,” an Aesop’s fable, suggesting an attempt to distort facts to justify failures.
“The Chief Minister’s allegations against the VPP remind me of this Aesop’s fable, which describes a wolf who fabricates accusations to justify eating a lamb,” he said. He pointed out that the ruling party, having governed the state for over seven years and currently holding 33 MLAs, continues to accuse the VPP—an opposition party formed less than four years ago—in a bid “to mislead the people and justify their failure to deliver the goods.” “The moral is that tyrants will always find an excuse for their cruelty,” Basaiawmoit added.
On Thursday, Sangma launched a veiled attack on the VPP and Basaiawmoit over the alleged lack of development in the constituencies represented by the MLAs of the regional party.
Addressing party workers during the induction ceremony of United Democratic Party leader Lambor Malngiang into the National People’s Party, Sangma wondered if development funds are being properly utilised in the constituencies held by the VPP representatives.
