Assam police take custody of arrested UALA commander

URA: Goalpara police of Assam have taken into custody the arrested militant commander of the United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) and booked him for the cold blooded killing of seven unarmed Rabha civilians late last year.

The UALA commander for North Garo Hills and Goalpara region identified as Tengsang N Sangma alias Nishan was arrested with five other militant members, including two women, from Basista area of Beltola in Guwahati while attempting to enter the city for a medical check up on Sunday evening.

He stands accused of leading a group of armed cadres that attacked unarmed civilians during a puja revelry on the eve of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections in Assam, last year leading to the death of seven people.

The UALA has been opposing the inclusion of Garo villages of Assam into the Rabha Hasong Autonomus Council.

Uala commander Nishan (26) who hails from Damas village of Mendipather in North Garo Hills was arrested along with Danison Sangma (29) of Angolagre village under Krishnai police station, Silsrang A Sangma alias Watdang (21) of Athiabari and Sobilal Momin (28) of Damas village.

The two women over ground workers of the outfit who were arrested with the UALA commander and his comrades have been identified as Jaisina N Marak (18) hailing from Chiokgre village of Williamnagar and Sairomitha R Marak (17) of Chutipara Kontasibara village under Goalpara district.

Sairomitha is said to be the wife of Silsrang A Sangma who was also arrested with the same group.
