SHILLONG: In a shocking incident, one 40-year-old Md Nilchand Ali has committed suicide in a police lock-up in West Garo Hills district after allegedly murdering his wife and one-year-old daughter at Namabhangarpur under Tikrikilla Police station.
Explaining the sequence of events, police said Ali (40) murdered his wife Nur Bano Bibi (28 yrs) and his daughter on April 26. The accused after committing the crime consumed poison and was later shifted to PHC Tikrikilla from where he was referred to CHC, Phulbari.
On April 27, evening, he was discharged from PHC Phulbari and police detained him at Bhogularbitha Outpost under Tikrikilla PS (WGH), where around 9.30 pm, he committed suicide by hanging himself inside the lockup.
When contacted, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi on Monday informed that a magisterial inquiry has to be conducted into the matter as per the guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission.
