Motorists abandon bikes, held after police chase

On November 13, at about 3:30 pm, two motorcycles, one with registration number AS-15S-8364 and another without a number plate, violated the ‘No Entry’ restriction at Laitlyngkot in East Khasi Hills. Following this, police pursued the motorcycles, which were later found abandoned near a road construction site. Police also apprehended both riders, namely Habijul Islam (19) and Rakibul Islam (20), both from Barpeta, Assam. During the inquiry, the riders stated that the motorcycles belonged to their relatives and they were proceeding to Dawki for sightseeing. However, because they did not possess driving licences or vehicle-related documents, they attempted to escape from the police.

Woman accused of EMI fraud in bike purchases

A male resident of a locality in Shillong lodged a complaint that in November 2024, one Roshni Chettri persuaded him to purchase a motorcycle in his name on an EMI basis, with a promise to pay the installments. However, the complainant later learned Roshni Chettri paid the EMIs for only three months and that the motorcycle remains in her possession. Interestingly, in June 2025, three male residents of Shillong jointly lodged a complaint against Roshni Chettri, alleging that she persuaded them to purchase motorcycles in their names on an EMI basis, promising to pay the EMIs every month. However, the complainants later learned that Roshni Chettri did not pay the EMIs regularly and that the motorcycles are in her possession.

Two-wheelers stolen

Johna Chongloi lodged a complaint that on the night of November 12, miscreants stole his motorcycle (ML-05AC-9597) from his residential compound in Madanrting, Block-F.
Sawant Kaur lodged a complaint that on November 12, miscreants stole her scooter (ML-05AF-7316) from her residential compound in Madanrting, Block-F.
Ardonki Rani lodged a complaint that on November 14, at approximately 6:15 pm, a miscreant stole his motorcycle (ML-05AA-3750) from Golf Links, Shillong.
Melvin Taylor Marbañiang lodged a complaint that overnight between November 14 and 15, miscreants stole his motorcycle (ML-05AF-9900) from Golf Links, Shillong.
Khrawbok Kshiar lodged a complaint that on the night of November 14, his motorcycle, which had no number plate, went missing from Lad Shyiap, Golf Links, Shillong.
Gabriel Nongrum verbally reported on November 15 that his motorcycle (ML-05AD-5306) was missing from the Golf Links Tri-Junction, Shillong.

Fire at govt office

Hazel DB Sangma lodged a complaint that on November 14, around 2 am, a fire broke out in the office of the Director of Higher & Technical Education, Shillong. The loss of property is estimated to be around Rs 5 lakh. However, no casualties were reported.

Wildlife division quarter vandalised

Markhiador Kharsyntiew lodged a complaint that on November 10, miscreants broke into an unoccupied quarter under the Khasi Hills Wildlife Division at Mawpun Lumsohkynphor Hills, Shillong, damaging windows, electrical switches, and casing pipes.

Haystack set on fire

Bijoystar Lyngdoh Kynshi of Ksehkohmoit village in Eastern West Khasi Hills lodged a complaint that on the night of November 11, miscreants set fire to his haystack, valued at around Rs 56,000.

Burglary

Evannesar Kharchandy lodged a complaint that on November 12, miscreants broke into his residence at Umphyrnai Dymmiew, Shillong, and stole jewelry valued at around Rs 2.5 lakh and RS 50,000 in cash.

Bangladeshis, including minor, nabbed

On November 12 at about 5 pm, BSF personnel of the 193rd Battalion from the Chikonbari BOP in South West Khasi Hills apprehended three suspected Bangladeshi nationals—Md Gobaras (22), Shipon Mia (21), and a twelve-year-old boy—in South West Khasi Hills. The individuals were later handed over to the BSF at the Karaigora BOP to be returned to Bangladesh.

Break-in

Parna Das lodged a complaint that on the morning of November 14, miscreants broke into his shop in Polo Bazar, Shillong, and stole Rs 60,000 in cash.
