SHILLONG, Nov 17: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is set to compile its findings and submit key recommendations to the departments concerned to enhance the efficiency and user-friendliness of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).
Led by Chairperson Miani D Shira, the PAC on Monday inspected four major health facilities in Shillong to assess the ground-level implementation of the MHIS. The team visited Civil Hospital Shillong, Ganesh Das Hospital, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, and Super Care Hospital.
During the inspection, the Committee interacted with hospital authorities and MHIS personnel to evaluate administrative procedures, beneficiary experiences, and systemic challenges affecting the delivery of services under the scheme.
Shira stated that the inspection aimed to obtain a holistic and realistic understanding of MHIS operations across state, central, and private health institutions. Acknowledging the scheme’s comprehensive design, she noted that hospitals continue to face operational bottlenecks that hinder optimal service delivery.
Reaffirming the Committee’s commitment, she stressed the need for MHIS services to remain accessible, efficient, and free from avoidable procedural obstacles. She added that the team held extensive discussions with administrators and MHIS officials, documenting issues and identifying actionable areas for improvement.
The Committee reiterated its dedication to safeguarding public interest by ensuring that MHIS delivers maximum benefit to the people of Meghalaya.
Members who accompanied the inspection team included Celestine Lyngdoh, Brightstarwell Marbaniang, Rupa M Marak, and HM Shangpliang, Adviser (Administrative), PAC.
