MAWKYRWAT, Nov 18: The Court of the Special Judge (POCSO) in South West Khasi Hills convicted two individuals for the rape of minor girls in separate cases dating back to 2012 and 2021.
In the first case, an FIR was lodged on December 29, 2012, accusing Welbester Langrin of Wahkaji village of sexually assaulting a minor girl on December 27.
Following a comprehensive investigation led by Sub-Inspector R.D. Shira, Langrin was charged under Sections 376 IPC and Sections 3(a)/4 of the POCSO Act.
The trial concluded with his conviction on October 17, 2025, sentencing him to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000, with an alternate simple imprisonment for one month upon default.
In the second case, an FIR was filed on February 14, 2021, against Robarness Lyngdoh from Mawmerang village for sexually assaulting his minor sister. The investigation was conducted by WPSI M.M. Arengh, leading to a charge sheet on March 31, 2021. Lyngdoh was convicted on October 14, 2025, receiving a sentence of 3 years and 6 months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000, with an additional simple imprisonment of two weeks if he fails to pay.
South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Banraplang Jyrwa emphasised that these convictions reflect the diligent efforts of the Investigating Officers and the commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.
