SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Police has expressed concern over a newly discovered trend wherein burglary cases were found closely linked to consumption of drugs.
According to East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang there is a craving for drugs among youths who commit theft. The stolen goods are exchanged with the peddlers for drugs.
“It is a matter of great concern for police as people addicted to drugs would go to any extent to satisfy themselves,” the SP said here on Tuesday.
Kharkrang added that several burglary cases of laptops/PCs were reported at Laitumkhrah area and officer in charge of Laitumkhrah PS, Inspector N.Thohrem along with his staff monitored the movement of some of the burglars who were released on bail recently.
According to the SP, in their pursuit, police were able to arrest one Ricky Swer (27) of Fire Brigade who was released on bail in February last and on his leading, the receiver of stolen properties, Jerry Maya Dkhar of Polo and Grace Khaute of Demthring, Shillong were also apprehended.
Later, two golden containers suspectedly containing heroin were recovered from Khaute. Following interrogation, the Anti Narcotic Task Force further seized five golden tobacco containers containing the same substance from her house.
A total number of five laptops and one LCD monitor were recovered from the arrested persons.
Kharkrang asserted that police is keeping a tab on all persons who have been released on bail.
