SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that he was not aware that the ambulance which was part of his convoy hit one labourer near Sumer leading to his death recently.

“Nobody told me about the incident. I came to know about this after reading the paper,” Dr Sangma said, while taking to newsmen here on Tuesday.

He said that it was very painful for him to hear the news.

“I am sending somebody to meet the bereaved family. I wish the family be blessed with strength to withstand the loss,” Chief Minister said.

When asked whether ex-gratia payment will be given to the bereaved family, he said the Government will take into consideration all these things. The Guwahati-bound convoy of the Chief Minister had left Shillong at around 6.30 pm on April 20 and on reaching Sumer, the ambulance (ML 01 6451) which was also part of the convoy hit the labourer identified as Wanbok Syiem. Wanbok was taken to the Shillong Civil Hospital in critical condition in the same ambulance which hit him. But he succumbed to his injuries the next day.
