TURA, Nov 21: In a freak tragedy, five labourers from Assam, who were working in a construction site near the village of Bokmagre, on the outskirts of Tura, were buried under deep mud following a construction mishap. Two of the labourers died during the accident.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning after which the families of the victims filed an FIR at the Araimile Outpost while another FIR was filed against the landowner, Saljrang D Sangma, resident of Dakopgre, Tura and sub contractor, Anowar Hussain (resident of South Salmara, Assam) over the incident.
Shahjol Hoque died on the spot while Zinarul Islam succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Tura Civil Hospital.
Police sources identified the injured as Zakirul Islam, Md Mozidul Hoque, and Sohidur Rohman.
All the labourers hailed from South Salmara, Assam.
As per information available, the labourers were buried after mud collapsed on top of them while they were cutting through sections above a newly-constructed retaining wall.
After the incident was reported, a rescue team consisting of the local police as well as personnel from the SDRF and DDMA was able to extract three of the injured.
However two others were buried deeper and were later extracted despite the significant risks involved.
Police sources added that an investigation into the cause of the accident is currently under way.
