B’deshi man held for illegal stay converted Indian woman before marriage
Dehradun, Nov 24: Mamun Hasan, a Bangladesh national arrested for illegally residing in Dehradun under a false identity with fabricated documents, allegedly converted an Indian Hindu woman, Reena Chauhan, to Islam and married her in Bangladesh, police said. Hasan – who assumed the identity of Sachin Chauhan – and Reena, residing in Dehradun’s Nehru Colony area, were arrested on Friday. The police on Sunday said they have come into possession of official documents from Bangladesh that suggest Hasan converted Reena to Islam before marrying her there. Reena Chauhan assumed the name Farzana Akhtar following her conversion. Police said that, after the matter of religious conversion came to light, a detailed investigation is being conducted into all aspects of the case. (PTI)
Collision averted at Delhi airport as flight lands on wrong runway
New Delhi, Nov 24: A major collision was averted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Sunday when an Ariana Afghan Airlines flight from Kabul mistakenly landed on a runway from where another flight was taking off, a DGCA official said. DGCA has already launched a probe into the incident. Ariana Afghan Airlines A310 aircraft operating flight FG-311 (Kabul-Delhi) was given clearance to land on runway 29L. However, the aircraft landed on runway 29R. The pilot-in-command of the Ariana flight stated that he lost ILS (Instrument Landing System) at 4NM (nautical miles) and the aircraft turned right, after which the captain landed with visual approach on runway 29R. Indian Navy commissions anti-submarine warfare vessel
Mumbai, Nov 24: The Indian Navy on Monday commissioned INS Mahe, the first of the Mahe-class anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft, which will form the first line of coastal defence, integrating seamlessly with larger surface combatants, submarines, and aviation assets. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi was the chief guest here at the commissioning ceremony of INS Mahe, marking the new generation of indigenous shallow-water combatants – sleek, swift and resolutely Indian. INS Mahe’s commissioning not only marks the induction of a potent new platform to the country’s maritime order of battle, but it also reaffirms India’s maritime capability to design, construct and field complex combatants with indigenous technologies, Gen Dwivedi said. Letter threatens blasts at Mall, schools; police sound alert
Lucknow, Nov 24: Police here on Monday sounded an alert after a handwritten letter received at the city’s Lulu Mall threatened to blow up several establishments, including schools. Mall authorities immediately informed police, following which security was stepped up. Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV camera footage to identify the culprits, the officer said. (PTI)
