SHILLONG, Nov 24: The long-standing dispute between the Lyngdoh of Raid Mylliem, his subjects, and the Myntris of Hima Mylliem over the conduct of traditional rituals at Iewduh has been amicably resolved.
A meeting held on Monday at the Syiem’s office in Mawkhar brought both parties to an agreement that the rituals for this year will be performed by the Lyngdoh of Raid Mylliem along with his subjects. The ritual procession will begin from Mawnarian, Lum Shyllong, and culminate at Iewduh.
The meeting was attended by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ainam Manik Syiem, who facilitated the discussion between the two sides.
Speaking after the meeting, Lyngdoh of Raid Mylliem, Korshon Lyngdoh Marbaniang, confirmed that consensus had been reached. He said the rituals at Iewduh would take place with full participation of the clansmen.
Emphasising the cultural importance of the ceremony, the Lyngdoh stated that traditional rituals must continue, as their preservation safeguards the identity of the community. He urged his subjects, traders and the public to witness the ceremony.
The ritual was originally scheduled for November 18 but was postponed by the KHADC following tensions surrounding the issue. With the dispute now settled, authorities expect the December 4 ceremony to proceed smoothly.
