Lioness kills 2-yr-old girl in Gujarat
Gir Somnath, Nov 26: A two-year-old girl was killed by a lioness in Gir Gadhada taluka of Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district on Wednesday morning, a forest official said. The girl’s half-eaten body was recovered later and the lioness was captured, he said. The district is home to the Gir National Park, the only habitat of Asiatic lions. The child was playing in the verandah around 10 am with her mother nearby when a lioness suddenly emerged from the forest, snatched the girl, and took her nearly one km inside the jungle, a range forest official said. Naxal couple with Rs 20 lakh bounty, surrenders
Raipur, Nov 26: A Naxalite couple carrying a collective reward of Rs 20 lakh on their heads surrendered before police in Chhattisgarh’s Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai (KCG) district on Wednesday, an official said. Dhanush alias Munna and his wife Roni alias Tule, both aged 25, had been active in the Maad division of the Bastar region and Tanda-Malanjkhand Area Committee under the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), he said. The couple said they were impressed with terms of the state government’s new surrender and rehabilitation policy and hence decided to give up the path of armed struggle, according to the official. Air quality ‘very poor’ in Delhi for 13th consecutive day
New Delhi, Nov 26: Delhi’s air quality remained in the “very poor” category for the 13th consecutive day on Wednesday, with the city recording an AQI of 327 and forecasts indicating no relief in the coming week. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) settled at 327 on Wednesday, compared to 352 on Tuesday and 382 on Monday, remaining in the “very poor” category for the 13th consecutive day. The air quality is likely to remain “very poor” over the coming week, according to a forecast issued by the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi. (PTI)
Srinagar records coldest night at minus 3.9 degrees Celsius
Srinagar, Nov 26: Cold wave tightened its grip over the Valley on Wednesday as Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar city witnessed this season’s coldest night so far at minus 3.9 degrees Celsius. Meteorological Department officials said the weather is likely to remain dry till December 10, and the minimum temperature is expected to drop further during this period. (IANS)
