Tourist buddy saves man from drowning at Ward’s Lake

SHILLONG, Nov 27: A split-second decision and a leap of faith turned a routine afternoon at Ward’s Lake into a dramatic rescue on Thursday.
Teiborlang Pakma noticed a man drowning at Ward’s Lake, and immediately swung into action by jumping into the water without a second thought.
Hired as a tourist buddy recently, Pakma’s act of courage certainly saved the man from certain death.
His selfless act was applauded by Meghalaya Tourism which hailed his training, presence of mind, and willingness to step forward in a critical moment truly signifying the spirit of the “Tourist Buddy” initiative.
“Meghalaya Tourism remains committed to ensuring safe and secure experiences for all visitors, every single day,” it said.
Tourist buddies have been deployed in major tourist spots of the state to act as guides and to ensure the safety of tourists.
