SHILLONG, Nov 28: The Income Tax Department, Shillong, on Thursday convened a meeting of the newly reconstituted Regional Direct Tax Advisory Committee (RDTAC) at Aayakar Bhawan, Shillong.
The meeting was chaired by N. Longvah, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong, and attended by RDTAC members, senior departmental officers and representatives from the Frontier Chamber of Commerce and the Meghalaya Tax Bar Association.
The Committee, constituted by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Ministry of  Finance, comprises experts from government, academia, law, finance and industry, representing perspectives from across Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
The RDTAC serves as an advisory platform facilitating constructive dialogue between taxpayers and the Income Tax Department. It provides feedback on laws, procedures, and taxpayer services, and examines region-specific issues, while individual cases and policy matters remain outside its mandate.
In her opening remarks, N. Longvah highlighted the important role of the RDTAC in strengthening communication between taxpayers and the Department, particularly in the Northeastern region.
Two technical presentations were delivered by officials from the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North Eastern Region, Guwahati, covering key updates on the Income Tax Act, 2025, and major TDS provisions.
The programme began with a welcome address by Lalramsanga Sailo, Addl. CIT (Hqrs), Shillong. The agenda discussions focused on practical measures to enhance taxpayer–Department communication, streamline procedures, and address key regional issues raised by the Committee members.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continued collaboration and the pursuit of responsive, taxpayer-friendly administration. The minutes of the meeting will be forwarded to the CBDT for further consideration.
