London, Nov 30: A turbulent weekend of Premier League action produced unlikely comebacks, decisive moments of quality and a fair share of chaos, with narratives shifting across the table as the season gathers pace.
At Selhurst Park, Manchester United finally exorcised their long-running hoodoo by overturning a half-time deficit to beat Crystal Palace — their first win at the venue since July 2020.
Jean-Philippe Mateta’s twice-taken penalty had put Palace firmly in control at the break, reigniting memories of United’s repeated struggles in South London. But Ruben Amorim’s side responded with grit after the restart. Joshua Zirkzee thundered in a venomous equaliser from a tight angle before Mason Mount drilled home the winner from a cleverly worked free-kick.
The victory ended a three-game winless run and pushed United back into the top six, denying Palace the chance to break into the top four.
Elsewhere, Brighton continued their climb up the table with a mature, efficient 2–0 win at Nottingham Forest — a result that lifted them to fifth place.
After surviving early scares and two crucial goal-line clearances, the visitors struck just before the interval through Maxim de Cuyper’s neatly taken finish. Forest improved after the restart, only to be undone late on when teenager Stefanos Tzimas pounced on a defensive error to seal the points. Brighton now sit level with sixth-placed Sunderland on 22 points but edge ahead on goal difference, while Forest hover just above the relegation zone.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, maintained their relentless charge toward the summit with a narrow but hard-earned derby win over Wolves, courtesy of Boubacar Kamara’s sensational strike.
In a game where openings were scarce and Wolves created several scares, Kamara produced a moment of brilliance from the edge of the box to send Villa third in the standings, just a point behind Manchester City. Wolves remain bottom of the table and nine points adrift of safety, despite threatening Villa repeatedly through Jorgen Strand Larsen and Yerson Mosquera.
At the London Stadium, Liverpool arrested their alarming slump with a much-needed 2–0 win over West Ham, ending a run of six defeats in seven league matches. The match itself unfolded at a painfully slow tempo, but results mattered more than aesthetics for Arne Slot. Alexander Isak finally broke his league scoring drought since joining from Newcastle, before Cody Gakpo added late gloss with a sharp turn and finish. With Mohamed Salah benched as Liverpool reverted to a 4-2-3-1, the reshuffled frontline did just enough to secure their first league win in over two months.
Tottenham’s woes, however, deepened dramatically as Fulham stunned them 2–0 in North London.
Marco Silva’s men struck twice inside six chaotic minutes early in the contest — Kenny Tete’s deflected effort followed by Harry Wilson’s precise lob after a disastrous mishit from goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Spurs chased shadows for most of the match, their home crowd growing increasingly restless as Fulham — previously winless away from home — delivered their most complete performance of the season. For Thomas Frank, pressure continues to mount, with Spurs now enduring their bleakest home form in years.
Across a weekend defined by revived fortunes at some grounds and deepening crises at others, the Premier League delivered another dramatic twist in an already unpredictable season. With the table tightening and momentum suddenly shifting for several clubs, the weeks ahead promise even more upheaval — and perhaps a few more storylines no one saw coming. (Agencies)
