Ban on overloaded hay-laden trucks in city

Shillong, Dec 1: Plying of overloaded hay-laden trucks /pickup trucks across the city has been prohibited with immediate effect to avoid any untoward incidents, a statement from the East Khasi Hills District Magistrate informed here on Monday.
The order came following reports that overloaded hay-laden trucks/pickup trucks pose a significant safety hazard and may contact with electric wires, which may result in a major fire incident, and hay falling from these trucks is littering the roads in the localities, creating a nuisance and undermining the efforts of the annual cleaning drive of the localities.
Any violation of the order shall be prosecuted under Section 223 of the BNS. The order shall remain in force until further notice.
